Very similar to the boxing gloves of modern day, but the Cestus was not designed to protect the delicate bones of the hand but rather to inflict maximum damage on the recipient of the strike.
The original was simply a leather belt rapped around the hand but over time the romans and greeks modified them by adding sharp objects and metal parts to increase damage.
